Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How are these glasses different from traditional blue light glasses?
- Sircadian's Un-Wind lens technology has been scientifically designed to go above and beyond traditional blue light filtering. Sircadian's lenses not only filter blue light but also filter most of the green light in the short wavelength light spectrum, providing superior protection.
- Additionally, Sircadian uses premium optics with advanced anti-scratch, anti-reflective, and hydrophobic coatings for improved functionality and durability.
Why do Sircadian's Un-Wind lenses have an orange/red tint?
- The blue and green light we’re looking to filter out exists in the shorter wavelength range of the visible color spectrum (around 400–500 nm). Just like with old film cameras, in order to effectively filter out certain colours, you have to use a filter from the opposite side of the colour spectrum. In this case, because we are filtering blue and green light, we need to use a lens material that has a red/orange tint. So the lens actually has to be that colour to effectively filter out the blue and green light.
What is the best time to wear these glasses?
- These lenses are designed for nighttime use only, the critical period of the day when exposure to artificial lights, screens, etc. can be disruptive.
- We do not recommend wearing these during the day. Scientifically speaking, we actually want exposure to short wavelength light (blue and green) throughout the day to promote wakefulness and to maintain our circadian rhythm. The problem with short wavelength light comes in the evening and at night, when it can be a disruptor. These glasses are designed to filter that disruptive light in the evening.
How does it help improve my sleep?
- Artificial lights in the short wavelength spectrum (i.e., blue and green) can increase the stress hormone cortisol and suppress the natural production of melatonin, a hormone the body produces to help regulate its natural sleep cycle and circadian rhythm. By using our Un-Wind™ filtering eyewear, you can reduce that disruption and give your body its best chance of transitioning to sleep.
What is the percentage of blue light that these filter?
- Under normal lighting conditions, Sircadian’s Un-Wind lenses filter 100% of the visible blue light spectrum and most of the green light spectrum.
What if I’m not sure whether these will work for me?
- We understand. This is an unfamiliar technology to many, and the idea of looking through coloured lenses can take some adjustment. To help support your purchase, Sircadian offers a no-hassle 30 day money-back guarantee. We’d encourage you to try them out and see how they feel. It may take a couple days to get used to them, but some find that they feel calmer and more relaxed even in the first session of use.
Can I wear these glasses while driving?
- The Un-Wind lenses are not meant for driving, and we advise you not to wear while operating machinery of any kind.
